Development Environment Allowance
In addition to the number of live websites included in your license, you can activate your license key on an unlimited number of local, test, or development WordPress installations without affecting your license count.
Qualifying Development URLs
Our system automatically identifies development environments based on their URLs. The following URL patterns are recognized as development environments and will not count against your license’s live-site limit:
localhost(any site running on localhost)*.test(domains ending with .test)*.local(domains ending with .local)
How It Works
When you activate your license on a site matching one of these URL patterns, our licensing system will recognize it as a development environment. These activations remain functional but are excluded from your commercial license count.
This policy allows you to:
- Set up proper staging workflows
- Test plugin updates before applying them to production sites
- Create development environments for client sites before going live
- Experiment with different configurations in isolated environments
Best Practices
While we provide unlimited development site activations, we recommend:
- Using consistent naming conventions for your development environments
- Deactivating licenses on development sites you no longer use
- Using proper staging tools when moving from development to production
