Better Signup Forms for Substack

Free WordPress plugin. Add Substack signup forms that live in your WordPress page instead of embedding a fixed-size external iframe. Build a form once, place it in a block or shortcode, and style it to fit your site.

What you can build

  • A Substack Signup Form block for posts, pages, and block-based layouts.
  • Reusable saved forms with optional settings for each block placement.
  • A shortcode or PHP function for sites that need another placement method.
  • An optional site-wide popup with timing and frequency controls.
  • Theme-matched, plugin-styled, or unstyled presentation.

The plugin is designed for one Substack publication per WordPress site. It offers an ordinary form submission when JavaScript is unavailable, and an enhanced submission mode when JavaScript is available.

How signup works

Your WordPress site validates the form and relays the visitor's email address to Substack when the visitor submits it. The plugin shows success only after Substack confirms acceptance. If the address belongs to an existing Substack account, the visitor continues through Substack sign-in to finish subscribing.

The plugin does not keep a local subscriber list or add its own tracking pixel. Substack remains the service that handles the subscription.

A note about the Substack connection

Substack does not provide a stable public subscriber API for this use case. The plugin uses the public signup endpoint used by Substack's own client, so a change on Substack's side may require a plugin update. Better Signup Forms for Substack is independent of Substack and is not endorsed by it.

Availability

The plugin is being prepared for free distribution and updates through YMMV accounts. This page will provide the download when that system is ready.
